Slovak Academy of Sciences and TÜBİTAK Open 11th Bilateral Call for Research Proposals

BRATISLAVA / ANKARA — The Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAV) and the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TÜBİTAK) have launched their 11th Bilateral Joint Call for Proposals. The framework provides funding for exactly three collaborative research projects with a duration of up to 36 months. Slovak researchers are eligible for up to €120,000 per project, while Turkish partners can receive up to 3,750,000 TRY.

The application deadline is July 17, 2026, with selected projects expected to begin in March 2027.

Program History and Scope

Established with a first joint call in 2013, the SAV-TÜBİTAK bilateral framework was designed to facilitate scientific cooperation between researchers in Slovakia and Türkiye. Over the past thirteen years, the platform has transitioned from a biennial program into an annual funding mechanism. The current call targets basic and applied research within specific interdisciplinary fields, including advanced materials, ICT, environmental changes, and artificial intelligence in healthcare.

Past Supported Projects

The bilateral framework has previously funded several collaborative projects across diverse scientific disciplines:

  • The RyRinHeart Project: A biophysics study conducted by the SAV Biomedical Research Center and Istanbul Technical University. The team utilized computational modeling to analyze cardiac receptor mechanisms and their relationship to heart arrhythmias.
  • Biomedical Engineering: A joint initiative between the SAV Institute of Measurement Science and Middle East Technical University (METU). The researchers combined clinical data with heart-surface potential mapping to improve the localization accuracy of abnormal heartbeats for catheter ablations.
  • Magnetic Metrology: A collaboration involving the SAV Institutes of Physics and TÜBİTAK’s National Metrology Institute (UME). The project focused on the design and characterization of custom three-axis fluxgate magnetometers to measure ultra-low magnetic fields.

Application Process

Project proposals must be submitted jointly by consortiums comprising at least one eligible SAV institute and one eligible Turkish university or research center. Identical applications must be submitted concurrently to the SAV Intranet system and TÜBİTAK’s UIDB-PBS portal by July 17, 2026.

Application guidelines, eligibility criteria, and financial regulations are available on the official web portals at oms.sav.sk and tubitak.gov.tr.
